Suspect in possible Twitter video hate crime turns self in

The suspect behind a video on Twitter of a possible hate crime turned himself into police Saturday afternoon.

Steven Drake Edwards, 19, turned himself into Detroit police between 3-3:30 p.m. Saturday as a result of negotiations between a lieutenant who had been in contact with Edwards' family.

Edwards recorded a video of himself pulling a gun on a 23-year-old man leaving a west side liquor store -- because Edwards believed the man was gay.

He recorded the video from his parked car and posted it on Twitter, where it became widely shared.

Edwards used Periscope to brag about what he did multiple times, challenging police to arrest him.
