Twelve Oaks robbery suspect kicks out windows, assaults police officer after turning self in
DETROIT (WJBK) - One of the three men suspected in a smash and grab at a metro Detroit mall this weekend has turned himself in, Detroit police confirm. But, police also tell us that the 26-year-old may be facing some additional charges for something he did after he was placed in the squad car.
The suspect walked into the Detroit Police Department's 6th Precinct overnight Tuesday and turned himself in. He was then held until Novi Police were able to pick him up for processing.
A source tells us that after Novi Police picked up the suspect, he kicked out the backseat windows and assaulted an officer.
The suspect's name has not yet been released.
On Monday, investigators released new images of all three suspects responsible. Police are working to track down the other two, but confirm the suspect seen in the photo on the right with the patterned shirt is in custody.
Police believe the suspects used hammers to break open a case inside the Tapper's at Twelve Oaks Mall.
Novi Police Sgt. Scott Baetens says the suspects took two high-end luxury watches from the case they smashed. After the suspects got the watches, investigators say they ran through the mall and left without a trace.
Police say this is the second smash-and-grab of the year at Tapper's. Investigators say they were able to solve the previous smash and grab at Tapper's and want to solve this one also.
If you have any information or recognize the suspects in the photo contact the Novi Police Department at (248) 348-7100.
