Two men arrested for fatal shooting of little girl on Easter

A 3-year-old girl killed in a senseless shooting on Easter Sunday.

Police have two suspects in custody. Now both men are being indicted on first degree murder charges for the Easter morning shooting death of 3-year-old A'Naiya Montgomery,

"Anytime you decide to use a gun, whether it strikes a 3-year-old or 90-year-old, we are going to continue to pursue this," said Police Chief James Craig. "There's nothing we can say, it's just a tragic situation. A 3-year-old because of foolishness."

On Thursday Detroit police say two men, a 20-year-old and a 26-year-old, are now in custody.

"Tremendous support by our community certainly provided tips," said Craig who also credited the police department for its tireless work.

Police say the 3-year-old was killed when someone barged into a home on Riverview Street early Easter Sunday morning when little A'Naiya sleeping next to her mother, was shot two times.

Police believe leading up to the incident, the shooter got into a fight with those inside the home, then decided to come back, kicking in the door and firing shots. Two others were injured, but A'Naiya died from her wounds.

Detroit police say several charges are expected against the two men including first degree murder, felony firearm, assault with intent to murder and home invasion.

The 26-year-old is also expected to be charged as a violent habitual fourth-time offender, with previous charges for drugs, felony assault and robbery. Now Detroit police believe those two will be off the streets for good.

Police expect the two to be arraigned by Friday.
