Vigil held for girl, 4, who died of severe burns in Sumpter Township

Friends and family gathered Sunday night to remember a 4-year-old girl who died after she was severely burned last week in Sumpter Township.

Gabby Barrett was burned over most of her body at a mobile home in Rawsonville Woods. Police and EMS were called there on January 1.

"She didn't have to pass the way she did but I hope we get justice for her really soon. I know we may not have a lot of information at all, but, it just hurts," says Kyle Barrett, Gabby's father.

Gabby's father and grandparents were not involved in the death. They say Gabby's mother had custody of the child at the time. Police say they are searching for two suspects and that Child Protective Services has also launched an investigation, but are not releasing additional information.

Charges likely in death of girl, 4, found with burns in trailer park

As for these grieving relatives, they have so many questions and so few answers.

"Right now it's hard to grieve because we can't put her to rest, and I miss her. I miss her so much," says her grandfather, Jerry Barret.

"She was a ball of joy. She always had a smile on her face, loved to play. She would run around the house when we had her always with a big ole smile on her face," says her grandmother, Deborah Barret. "Keep flying, Gabby. Keep flying. We're watching you and we love you."

Authorities have said charges could soon be filed in connection with the girl's death.
