Marine City police respond to swatting incident downtown
Shortly after this report police confirmed it was a false report and there was never any danger to the community. Just before 6:20 p.m. Sunday evening police were called to a building in downtown Marine City, for a person claiming to have taken hostages. After about two hours of investigating, and further phone calls where the caller claimed to have killed one of the hostages, police concluded that the incident was likely a "swatting" call.

Jessica Kaba and her 13-year-old son Eddie were awoken just before 7:30 a.m. April 11 to the sounds of a fire in their mobile home. The pair, along with one of their cats made it out of the house without injury, but they had just the clothes on their back in doing so. It is unknown if their other cats survived or not, they are unaccounted for.

On April 9, the WNBA announced that WNBA expansion teams have been approved in Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia. This comes after it was announced in 2025 that Lions QB Jared Goff, former Michigan great Chris Webber, and more were investing in trying to bring the WNBA back to Detroit. Pistons owner Tom Gores is leading a group of investors that have submitted the bid to add a WNBA expansion team.

On March 27, Detroit police say they were called out to a domestic violence incident where they were met by Caitlin Tressler through an open window. Police then say they spoke with a man inside Tressler's home who was identified as her ex, or possibly current boyfriend. At the time, they determined there was no threat and left the scene. However, how officers handled that situation is now under investigation.
