Metro Detroit weather: Dry Friday before rain and snow to start the weekend

It’s tough to call it a warm-up, but compared to where we’ve been, today doesn’t feel half bad.

The cold is coming, but first, we’ll have to get through a mix of rain and snow. Precipitation kicks off tonight and becomes widespread by 3 a.m., with rain mixing with snow in many areas.

Snow totals will land on either side of an inch—not much, but watch for icy spots as temps fade fast.

Temps peak Saturday morning in the 30s but drop quickly by the afternoon. Tailgaters, bundle up—wind chills will sink into the teens by sunset.

The deep freeze takes over Sunday into early next week. Single-digit highs and subzero lows are on the way, with wind chills plummeting 10 to 20 below zero.
