Metro Detroit weather: Slick Thursday morning commute as freezing rain starts to fade

It’s a slick start across Southeast Michigan, with freezing rain mixing in with a bit of snow, though both are now fading.

The freezing rain that fell all night was enough to close hundreds of school closings across the area. See the full list.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through the morning commute, expiring at 9 a.m.

Check the live road conditions.

Temps climb above freezing through the day, improving conditions, but a noticeable wind will stick around with gusts up to 25-30 mph this afternoon.

Highs will reach nearly 40, but those winds will have an impact.

A cold front crashes through tonight, sending temps tumbling and setting the stage for a colder stretch ahead.

After Thursday, temps remain below average for at least the next week.

And we’re not done with the snow! Low pressure moves into SE Michigan Saturday, bringing our next round of snow. Still early on totals, but for now, I’ll say 1-3" (subject to change!), with the lowest amounts south and the highest north.
