1st Marcus Belgrave Scholarship benefit concert

Marcus Belgrave was one of the biggest names in Motown's jazz scene. Now, less than a year after his death a scholarship fundraiser will be beld to honor him. His widow, Joan Belgrave, joined us in the FOX 2 Studio to tell us more about the Marcus Belgrave Scholarship and its first benefit concert.

Ms. Belgrave will be performing at the concert Tuesday night at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History that will establish the scholarship. Many other famous musicians that Marcus mentored will also perform. The concert starts at 7 p.m.

You can purchase tickets to the concert online at www.joanbelgrave.com or www.marcusbelgrave.com, or by calling (313) 640-8552 or (734) 945-1721. General admission is $25 and VIP tickets are available for $100.

If a purchaser would like to support the Marcus Belgrave Scholarship Fund and is unable to attend the concert, Ms. Belgrave asks that a note be sent in the comments section of online payment and your ticket will be donated to a young musician to attend the event.

Through Jazz Development Workshop, Ms. Belgrave hopes to continue this legacy of supporting young musicians in the form of sponsorship to summer jazz camps, workshops, and practical on the job performance training.

A free youth workshop will also be held on Thursday, March 10 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. at The Carr Center in Detroit.
