Detroit's Waldorf School to hand out knitted goods this MLK Day

(WJBK) - Students, teachers and others at Detroit Waldorf School in Indian Village has been knitting all fall in an effort to have enough to sprinkle throughout the city on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, when school is not in session. They'll be tying scarves around lampposts and telephone poles near where homeless people tend to congregate with notes encouraging folks to take a scarf to keep warm this winter.

Since there is no school in session on MLK Day, the scarf-bombing activity, which will kick off with volunteers meeting in Campus Martius on January 18th at 10 a.m., is voluntary. However, knitting is part of DWS' handwork curriculum, offering students the opportunity to participate.
