Local Marines Raising Funds for War Memorial

They dedicated their lives to their country and each other, and they paid the ultimate price. This Independence Day, there’s something you can do to help honor 22 local U.S. Marines who died in combat operations in Iraq nearly a decade ago.

Mike Dahm, Brian Evans, and Bill Ray are veterans of the 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment. The reserve infantry unit is headquartered out of the Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township, and was deployed to Iraq in 2006-07. All three are members of the regiment’s memorial committee and are raising money to help construct a memorial to their fallen comrades located behind of the municipal offices in Chesterfield Township. Construction started in the spring.
