'MOTOWN: The Sound of Young America' coming soon

(WJBK) - Just what went on behind the scenes at the Motown ecording studio that made the label so iconic?

This month, Thames & Hudson will publish MOTOWN: The Sound of Young America, the definitive history of the Detroit-based record label that is both an insider business story and a visual feast for any Motown fan.

Former BILLBOARD editor-in-chief Adam White together with Berry Gordy's right-hand man Barney Ales reveal the workings of the Motown machine that brought us such artists as Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and The Jackson 5, and detail how a small family business grew into a popular music powerhouse at a time of momentous social and cultural change.

But MOTOWN: The Sound of Young America is also a beautiful, coffee-table book, heavily illustrated with tons of incredible photos (performance shots, behind-the-scenes candid photos, promo images, contact sheets) and amazing reproductions of record sleeves, posters, and other memorabilia.
