Volunteers help give Detroit playground big makeover

Recess is about to get better for some students in Detroit as hundreds of volunteers pitch in to give their playground a big makeover.

More than 200 volunteers from Target, organizers from KaBOOM! and Bethune Elementary-Middle School joined forces Friday to build a new playground at the school.

The design for the playground is based on drawings children made at a special design event this past summer.

"They were able to design their ideal playground -- seesaws, slides, swings -- and that's exactly what they're getting," said Alisanda Woods, Bethune Elementary-Middle School principal. "It makes them responsible because they designed it and they're going to take care of it."
