1 dead, 11 injured in block party shooting on Detroit's west side

Detroit Police Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt told Fox 2 Saturday night that the shooting happened at a children's birthday party during a block party. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown. 

The shooting, which allegedly occurred on a basketball court near the intersection of Dexter and Tuxedo on Detroit's west side, happened shortly before 9 p.m.

Dolunt said about 400 people were at the party and, at this point, no witnesses are talking or cooperating with police. No children were injured in the shooting. 

According to police, a 21-year-old man was killed.
