Armada Township officials say one person has died after a house fire Monday morning. The fire happened at a home on Romeo Plank Road between 32 and 33 mile roads.

We're told two people were in the home at the time of the fire. The condition of the second person is not known at this time.

Chief Dan Reynolds says the fire doesn't appear to be suspicious, but that there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

"Every day of the year, this is an absolute must-have. People are often under the impression that somehow they're going to wake up or they're going to smell the smoke - that's simply not the case," he says. "An early warning detection is your best chance to escape."

Michigan state police are investigating. Two other neighboring towns were also called in to help put out the fire.
