1 killed after driver speeds off after stop, crashes into vacant home

One person is dead after a car crashed into a vacant house in Detroit Thursday afternoon.

Police Chief James Craig said an officer had the vehicle pulled over for a routine traffic stop, when the vehicle suddenly took off.

The officer called dispatch and did not go after the vehicle, Craig said.

Meanwhile, the car drove into a construction zone and crashed into a vacant house near Buena Vista and Wyoming.

One person in the vehicle died in the crash, Craig said, and the two others are in the hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.

Craig said officers found weapons and ammunition in the car.
