1 teen released from hospital after hit-and-run in Taylor

One of the victims in the hit-and-run accident in Taylor over the weekend has been released from the hospital. Police are still looking for the driver who left the scene after hitting the two 17-year-olds who were driving a moped.

The accident happened Saturday night in the area of Beech Daly and Van Born. Police believe the moped went through a stop sign and was hit by a truck. The truck was going west on Joan Street.

The crash appeared to be a horrible accident but is now considered a crime since the driver left the scene. Police have released surveillance video from a nearby building that captured footage of the white, early 2000s model F-150, which is believed to be the truck involved in the accident. The truck should have damage to the right passenger side near the rear tire.

The teens on the moped have been identified as Austin McCumber and Martin Jamie. Jamie has been treated and was released from the hospital Sunday. McCumber went to Kennedy High School and Jamie goes to Truman.

A family member of McCumber's says on Monday that he is still on life support and is undergoing tests to determine his brain activity. Taylor Police had told FOX 2 earlier than McCumber had already been taken off life support.

Anyone with information on the accident or the driver of the truck should contact the Taylor Police at 734-287-6611.
