A Detroit boy is being charged with involuntary manslaughter after shooting and killing a 14-year-old boy Tuesday night.

The 13-year-old is accused of shooting Frederick Austin in a shed behind a vacant home Tuesday evening in the 5300 block of Radnor.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor, Austin was handling the gun before the other teenager picked it up and the gun went off, hitting and killing Austin.

The 13-year-old was charged as a juvenile with one count of involuntary manslaughter. He will be held at a juvenile detention facility until his trial in a juvenile court.

The 13-year-old boy has not been identified because he is a minor.

"Once again another tragedy in Detroit," Police Chief James Craig said Tuesday.

As he was on scene, a scream could be heard in the background echoing through the city as grieving family members learned the awful truth.

The 13-year-old is an eighth grade student who attends Marquette Elementary on Canyon Street who neighbors say was looking forward to summer.
