15th Annual Royal Oak Firefighters Walk
ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) - The morning routine was a little different for families Tuesday morning, as they lined up at the Walgreens at 12 Mile and Rochester roads for the 15th Annual Royal Oak Firefighters Walk to School.
Firefighters have a chance to engage with the community's youngest citizens while they walk them to school. The walk also is important as it encourages children to stay safe on their way to and from school, as well as living a healthy lifestyle.
"The kids just love it. We've been doing it for all these years, and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger every year. It's just a simple idea of just making sure that the kids are safe and that the fire department and the police department are behind them," says Cary Thompson, a Royal Oak firefighter.
Roary from The Detroit Lions and Paws from the Detroit Tigers even joined in on the walk.
