16-year-old stabbed in Roseville, undergoes open heart surgery

An Eastpointe teenager is recovering after being stabbed in the chest Monday night in Roseville.

Roseville Police say they received multiple calls about a large fight that was happening at Veterans Memorial Park around 9 p.m., which is off Barkman Street near 11 Mile Road.

When police got there, they say a crowd of teens were gathered around a gazebo. Most ran off when they saw police, and then police saw a young man on the ground.

Police discovered a 16-year-old had been stabbed in the upper chest. The teen was rushed to the hospital and had to undergo open heart surgery. He is in critical condition.

Witnesses say the victim and the suspect were arguing when the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed him.

Roseville police say the victim knew the name of the person who stabbed him, and was able to tell officers before he was taken to the hospital. Police tracked down the 15-year-old and arrested him about 30 minutes after the stabbing.

The 15-year-old is being held in the Macomb County Youth Home and will be arraigned on Tuesday on a charge of attempted murder.

Police said in a press release that the teens were arguing about rumors that had been spread about the victim's girlfriend, and the victim believed the suspect may have been the one spreading them.

Police say the suspect told them he didn't mean to stab the victim, but that he just meant to scare him and that the fight got out of hand

Police did not name any of the teens involved.
