DETROIT (WJBK) - Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Monday morning that a federal judge shot earlier this year in Detroit is one of many victims in a series of attempted robberies and attacks.
Judge Terrence Berg was taking out the trash in March when two men walked up to him and demanded to go inside his home. He refused and was shot in the leg.
Worthy says a man named Kevin Smith Jr. pulled the trigger and shot Berg outside his home.
She named Timothy Russell and Dondiego Adams as the other suspects in a series of more than a dozen crimes that happened around the University District in a four-month period.
Worthy says a second man was with Smith the night of Berg's shooting, and that he is cooperating so his name is not yet being revealed.
Russell and Adams were not involved in Berg's shooting, Worthy says, and that their cases will be handled separately.
Smith has been charged with assault with intent to murder; felon in possession of a firearm; felony firearm; conspiracy to commit armed robbery; and armed robbery.
