3 kids found safe after mother killed in double murder on Detroit's east side

Detroit police say three children who were unaccounted for after their mother was the victim of a double murder on the city's east side have been found safe.

Detroit police said Monday evening the three children have been located and are with a relative. Police didn't immediately give any more information.

Police say a man and a woman were found dead inside a home on New Year's Day in the 9200 block of McKinney Street, which is near Harper Avenue and Berkshire Street. One of the victims was a 36-year-old woman, who police say was the mother of the kids who couldn't be located.

Police say officers were called to the home after they got an anonymous call from someone who told police the suspect called and said he shot his estranged wife at the house.

When police got to the home, they found a man and a woman with fatal gunshot wounds to the head. We're told the male victim was the woman's boyfriend.

Officers confirmed the suspect has been taken into custody in Redford.
