3-year-old fatally shot, two others injured on Detroit's west side
DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit police are investigating a shooting that killed a 3-year-old girl and injured two adults on Detroit's west side.
The incident took place around 3 a.m. Sunday in the 16800 block of Riverview Street, near West McNichols and Telegraph roads.
According to police, a male suspect got into an argument with some people inside of the house on Riverview. He left and returned to the house, kicked in the door and fired multiple shots.
The 3-year-old was shot twice. She was transported to Sinai Grace Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Two adult males were also shot, but their condition is unknown at this time.
"He's in critical condition. He can't talk," said a woman on the scene who preferred to stay anonymous. One of the adults shot is her son's father.
The woman said her 15-year-old son was also inside the house. The mother told FOX 2 she thought her son was missing, but found out he's in police custody.
The suspect is described as a 6'1" black male with a medium complexion and slim build. He was wearing all gray clothing and armed with a handgun.
Police believe the suspect left in a gray or white Mercury Grand Marquis. There was also a small black vehicle following his vehicle.
"It was like the Wild Wild West. They were in the backyard shooting, front out here shooting," said an unidentified neighbor, preferring to stay anonymous. "It started out as a drive by and from that everything broke loose -- on the porches, in the yard, on the trucks, like they just had a license to have a shootout."
One person was taken from the scene in handcuffs for questioning. Police are still looking for the suspect.
