3-year-old hit by AK-47 bullet in Warren as grandmother tried to unload gun: police
WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - A young girl was accidentally hit by a bullet from an AK 47 when a family member was handling the gun Wednesday at a home in Warren, according to Warren Police.
The girl's grandmother found the gun in the house and was trying to unload it, when it discharged twice, according to officials.
Police say the bullet traveled from the second floor into the first floor, where it hit the girl in the leg. The girl, who police say is 3 years old, is in stable condition at the hospital.
Police added that the bullet also continued into the basement -- and narrowly missed an 18-year-old on the couch.
Police say the grandmother found it and wanted to get it out of the home because the child was there.
This happened at a home in the 13000 block of Charlotte Avenue, which is near Groesbeck and Eight Mile.
Warren police say the little girl was taken to Macomb Hospital and will be OK.
Police say the gun was purchased legally and belongs to the child's father but now he could be facing charges for failing to secure the weapon that shot his daughter.
