5-year-old girl assaulted during home invasion: police

Detroit police are investigating after they say a 5-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the middle of the night at home by a stranger.

Police were called to the 600 block of Brainard, which is near Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and 2nd Ave, just after 3 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the 5-year-old was sleeping and told her parents a white man came through a bedroom window and touched her inappropriately. The girl says he may have had a knife with him.

Police say this appears to be random, and the parents don't have any idea who the man could be.

At this time, the description of the suspect is that he's a white man with a thin build, about 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a black hat and beige pants.

Authorities took the girl to Children's Hospital as a precaution. She wasn't physically harmed.

Later Thursday morning, police said they had two people in custody for questioning. It's not known right now, though, if they are witnesses or potential persons of interest.
