8-year-old boy with autism mauled in dog attack on east side

WEB UPDATE (8:29): The mother of the child has been arrested by police.

An 8-year-old special needs child was mauled on Detroit's east side Tuesday afternoon.

The boy, who has autism, was mauled by two pit bull dogs after he was left alone at the house with 9-year-old and a 6-year-old siblings.

The boy's mother came home to the residence, in the 4000 block of Bewick, to find him and called 911.

The boy suffered bite wounds all over his body from the mauling. All three dogs were taken away by police.

The 27-year-old mother had left to pick up her youngest child from preschool.  She is now being interviewed by the child abuse unit of the Detroit police. The other children are with a relative.

The boy is in stable condition at Detroit Children's Hospital of Michigan.
