9-year-old shot, father killed in armed robbery at Detroit Wendy's

Police say a 28-year-old man is dead, his 9-year-old shot after an armed robbery early Sunday morning on Detroit's west side.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. at the Wendy's restaurant off of Grand River Avenue.

Police say the man, identified by family as Christopher Reed was shot multiple times in front of his children after being the victim of an armed robbery. According to the police report, Reed and his children, aged 9 and 5 where in a purple Dodge Magnum when two men approached the vehicle and announced they were staging a robbery.

According to family, that is when Reed started to cooperate with the suspects, handing over cash and watch before the robbers shot him.

His 9-year-old was shot in the hand during the incident is expected to be okay.

According to police, the father was able to drive to a home in the 17000 block of Northrop before succumbing to his injuries.

The motive for the robbery is unknown and police do not have clear descriptions of the suspects.
