Angels' Night patrols, curfew and gas can ban start tonight

DETROIT (WJBK) - Volunteers will be out in force joining Detroit Police and Fire departments to protect the city. Angels' Night patrols kick off Thursday evening. The city is also enforcing a curfew and a gas can ordinance. All begin Thursday evening and last through Halloween.

The curfew requires all minors, 17 and under, to be accompanied by a legal guardian or parent, and police will need to see ID. That will be in effect from 6 p.m. - 6 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Minors will be allowed to travel to or from any educational or employment place, but they will need to carry proof of employment or that they attended the educational program.

Minors who violate curfew will be ticketed and held until they're picked up by a guardian. That guardian could be ticketed as well.

The gas can ordinance bans anyone from filling up a gas can or any other portable containers, except for those used in stalled cars, heaters or gas generators.

As for the patrols, volunteers are still needed and it is not too late to get involved.

"We want everybody's help. We had more than 8,000 volunteers last year; we'd like to increase that number," Mayor Mike Duggan has said. "I'll be out all three nights as I was last year, driving every one of the council districts."
