DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit Police have released surveillance video after two young children were found alone in a motel early Tuesday morning where a shooting took place.
Around 12:15 Tuesday morning, Cranbrook House Motel turned violent as a man pulled out a gun and exchanged gunshots with another man.
Deon Jones is staying at the motel and said he just dropped.
"I just laid down. I didn't see nothing but I heard the shots and I just laid down on the ground," he said.
Another man reported feeling pain after the shots were exchanged and police were called.
As investigators were searching for evidence, they discovered a bullet went through the window of Room 119. That's where they found the two toddlers who had been left alone in soiled diapers.
Workers from Child Protective Services arrived just before 4 a.m. Tuesday to remove the kids from the room. Sources tell Fox 2 that the mother's last know address was in Detroit, not too far from the motel and at that time she was staying with family
Sources tell Fox 2 that the mother's last know address was in Detroit, not too far from the motel and at that time she was staying with family.
"She was over here five or six months," her former neighbor, Brittany Clark, said."It's shocking I can honestly tell you it's hurtful cause I have a son of my own."
Police said the mother came forward around noon and identified herself. She was later arrested and the kids have been turned over to the biological father of one of the toddlers.
Police say the shooting remains under investigation.
