Woman's body found in attic of abandoned house fire in Detroit
The fire took place at a boarded up residence at the intersection of Aurora and Wyoming on Detroit’s west side.
DETROIT (FOX 2) - While searching a Detroit house after a fire early Monday, firefighters discovered a body in the attic on the city's west side.
The backstory:
According to Detroit Police Cmdr. Ryan Connor, firefighters and officers responded to a house fire in the area of Aurora Street and Wyoming Avenue around 1:30 a.m.
It was 1:30 a.m. when the call came in to 911. Detroit firefighters arrived at the scene in less than five minutes, putting out the fire and then made a disturbing discovery.
"After extinguishing the blaze, units from the fire department began a search of the residence, at that point they found a deceased female in the attic," said Cmdr. Ryan Connor, Detroit police.
But how did she end up there? how did she die? who was she? And was the fire accidental or intentionally set?
"The Detroit Police Department Homicide Unit, and Arson Unit are on scene, actively investigating, trying to work to find the woman’s identity and get with a medical examiner to find a cause of death," Connor said.
Homicide and arson investigation units were at the scene. They will be working to determine the cause of the fire and the identity of the victim.
Connor said the medical examiner will also determine how the victim died.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
