Body recovered from Clinton River in Sterling Heights
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - A search over the weekend has come to a tragic end after kayakers in the Clinton River spotted a body floating in the water.
The search started Saturday in Sterling Heights when kayakers called 911 to report someone floating in the water, but that body wasn't found until Monday.
"Somebody has been found. We're in the process of documenting the scene - recovering the person," said Sterling Heights Assistant Fire Chief Edwin Miller.
Rescue crews could not locate a body when they searched on Saturday and Sunday, and nobody had been reported missing. But since then they've received a missing person report and on Monday another call brought police and fire to a location near 17 Mile Road and Utica.
It's not yet clear if it's the missing man. The medical examiner will make that determination.
This one of several water-related deaths or near-drownings over this steamy weekend. The water a great way to cool down and have some fun, but it can be dangerous and even deadly.
"There are a lot of people on the water, and just make sure you wear a (Personal Floatation Device), even if you think it's just waist deep, wear it. It just helps out and have a float plan, make sure people know where you're at," Miller said.
