Construction worker rescued from trench collapse in Warren

A construction worker was saved in a trench rescue Wednesday in Warren.

The Warren Fire Department saved a man in his 30s who was trapped at the construction site, on Timken Street near Van Dyke and Nine Mile Road. The rescue effort took about an hour to retrieve the man who was buried up to his waist.

The man was described as breathing and conscious at the time of his rescue but possibly may have a broken leg.

"He was conscious the whole time," said Chief Tim Morgan, Warren Fire Department. "He was in pain. He was cold, we got a blanket around him and now we just slowly and carefully, dug him out."

He was doing foundation work at the time of the incident. FOX 2 has learned that proper protocol was not used at the site, where a house explosion had happened there last summer. '

The homeowner said this was the first day that work had been done at the home since the explosion.

"Now what?" said Annette Pesta. "This was the first day they were doing work at my house since July 28. Now this happens and this will delay it again."

Morgan said the worker was at the hospital being treated and is expected to recover.
