Crossing guard critically injured after being hit by minivan in Mt. Clemens

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office says a crossing guard was hit by a minivan outside of a school Friday morning.

According to the sheriff's office, a teacher was working as a crossing guard on Cass Ave. near Prevail Academy in Mt. Clemens Friday when the accident happened.

The teacher was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. Nobody else was injured.

Bill Stark owns a hardware store across the street and says he's not surprised it happened.

"I figured something was going to happen one of these days it's so hectic in the morning," Stark said.

The sheriff's office spent Friday at the scene and investigated the accident. They said driver is cooperating with deputies.

The teacher has not been identified but the school released this statement:

"The incident has left everyone shaken up, and we are deeply saddened that our friend and colleague was in harm's way this morning. We're keeping her in our prayers, and we ask our community to do the same."
