Dangerously cold temps lead to school closings, weather advisories

Dangerously cold weather has hit the metro Detroit area with temperatures in the single digits.

In its wake, multiple school closings and weather advisories were issued Wednesday night. Dozens of other school closings rolled in Thursday morning. 

A wind chill advisory is in effect for a number of counties around the state, specifically southeast Michigan, for another 24 hours.

Wind chills will vary from -10 to -30 degrees Wednesday evening through Thursday.

Wednesday night's low will be 2 degrees, but colder in the suburbs.

Wayne County leads the way with numerous school closings, including all Detroit Public Schools. Other closings can be found in Macomb, Oakland and Monroe counties, among others.

FOX 2's Rich Luterman said it will stay bitterly cold for the next 36 hours. Snow is expected Thursday night, as many as 2 to 3 inches.
