Detroit baby dies on east side, police investigating

Detroit Police are investigating the tragic death of a 3-month-old who was found unresponsive and pronounced dead on Sunday.

Police confirmed to FOX 2 on Monday the baby died on Sunday but the details of the baby's death and any surrounding circumstances were not released.

What we know:

Police were called to a home on Sunday on the east side between Outer Drive and I-94 just west of Chalmers to a report of a baby not breathing. Detroit Police said the 3-month-old was rushed to the hospital where the infant was pronounced dead.

Detroit Police say it’s child abuse unit is working this case and investigators are interviewing people inside the home including other children.

Neighbors expressed shock and grief about the baby's death.

"I couldn’t imagine waking up and hear in anything like that about my own baby let alone my neighbors," Tamara Lowe said.

Neighbors said they would often see kids at the home.

"I let my daughter go out there and play with them. They were good kids. I could tell," Lowe said.

What we don't know:

Detroit Police said how the baby's death is still under investigation.

No other details were released by police.
