Detroit firefighters battle house blaze on southwest side

DETROIT (WJBK) - WEB UPDATE (3:45): The house fire was said to be under control. There is no word on any injuries yet.

Detroit firefighters are battling a house fire in frigid temperatures on the city's southwest side Thursday.

The fire is in the 4400 block of Freer near Stephens in the area of Michigan Avenue and I-94. Multiple fire vehicles are at the scene and firefighters can be seen straddling the roof, using axes to create holes for the billowing smoke.

It is unclear if the home was occupied at the time of the fire. All companies in the area are responding.
