Detroit police: 5-year-old tests positive for cocaine

Detroit police are investigating after a 5-year-old boy tested positive for cocaine.

The child's mother said the boy was acting erratically and took him to Detroit Children's Hospital of Michigan for a psychological analysis.

Once there, a urine test was also done, where the child tested positive for cocaine, according to two sources with the DPD.

The boy's 38-year-old mother told investigators she had no idea how her son came into contact with the substance.

She has been arrested by police, according to the public information officer.

Police arrived at Children's Hospital at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and met with a staff social worker. A member of the DPD child abuse unit and Child Protective Services are also handling the case.
