Detroit police update on officer-involved shooting with wanted suspect
A large police scene took hold near downtown Friday involving a wanted suspect accused of 10 shooting incidents. He was wounded after a chase and is in now in custody.
FOX 2 - A suspect wanted in multiple shootings was wounded by police in an officer-involved shooting Friday.
The backstory:
The man, 29, fled from an arrest attempt by Detroit police and allegedly carjacked someone during the pursuit.
After a Michigan State Police vehicle performed a pit maneuver, the armed suspect fled the SUV.
DPD 1st Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald said he rounded the corner and encountered two Detroit police officers who shot him.
Fitzgerald said the suspect was wanted for nine shooting incidents in the past 10 days, and 10 overall.
"One is a non-fatal shooting, and the other incidents in the past 10 dates that occurred include shooting at houses and cars," he said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police say they recovered a weapon but it is still unclear whether he fired during today’s chase.
A witness told us officers, an ambulance, and an overturned truck created a chaotic scene in the neighborhood.

Police chase ends with wanted shooting suspect shot, arrested in Detroit
A suspect wanted in 10 different shootings was shot and wounded by Detroit police officers Friday.
Fitzgerald said the first encounter took place at 12:30 p.m. when officers from the 10th precinct had the suspect under surveillance.
The suspect, who is also wanted in a federal case, fled in his vehicle after spotting police.
In the area of Livernois and Fullerton, he ditched his vehicle and allegedly carjacked an SUV. At that point three ATF agents fired shots at the suspect.
At 1:20 p.m. MSP engaged the suspect and performed the pit maneuver causing him to crash.

Detroit police officer-involved shooting downtown
Detroit police have arrested a wanted suspect Friday after a chase.
The large police presence could be seen near downtown Detroit with multiple units and crime tape.
A swarm of Detroit police and Michigan State Police cars were in the area of Cass and Martin Luther King Blvd.
There is a second scene nearby with police around an older Chevrolet Tahoe with broken windows on MLK Blvd, which is the suspected carjacked vehicle.
One witness spoke to FOX 2 about the wild scene.
"The police were out here, someone had gotten shot, and there was a truck that was flipped over, and now they have the block, (blocked) off," said one woman. "We can't go anywhere."
