Detroit's Winter Blast has some new stuff you might love - and it has a new name: The Quicken Loans Winter Blast Weekends.

The Winter Blast was created in 2005 ahead of the Super Bowl XL Detroit hosted in 2006. It used to be one weekend, but now the free celebration is held over four weekend. It is a tradition to lift the spirits when we're experiencing the winter doldrums.

The expanded festival begins Saturday January 19th.  The festival can be broken down into four parts- each weekend highlighting a different winter activity. Free ice skating during two weekends at Campus Martius, not to mention city slopes with skiing and snowboarding in the heart of downtown courtesy of 2,000 tons of manufactured snow.

There will also be a four lane 30-foot high winter slide - a favorite for folks who like to fly at up to 20 miles per hour through a tube and zip lining 34 feet above the ground.

And isn't any city center better when you can roast marshmallows?

Woodward Avenue will stay open during the festival weekends and the QLine will also be available. You can shake off the cold by warming up at Cadillac Lodge.
