DPD officer arrested for drunk driving

A Detroit Police Commander from the 3rd precinct was arrested early Sunday morning for drunk driving and causing an accident.

Police say Cmdr. Johnny Thomas was driving under the influence when the accident happened near Mack and St. Antoine around 12:20 a.m. No additional information has been released yet.

However, a warrant package has been submitted to the WCPO for review and Thomas has been placed on restricted duty until the investigation is complete.

Police say the actions of Thomas is certainly disappointing, but it is not a reflection of the men and women who put their lived on the line and serve heroically every day.
