Gunfire erupts on Detroit's west side, leaving two people dead and two others wounded.

Police say the shooting may be connected to earlier violence in the area this week.

It happened when four men were sitting on the porch and three men in a black SUV pulled up and unloaded multiple shots. Sixty-five year old  John Smith died at the scene, the other victims were treated at a nearby hospital where the second person died.

Neighbors are unnerved because the shooting happened in broad daylight while kids were coming home from school.

Police say that the shooting was not random and only one of the victims was the intended target.

Police are looking for three suspects who drove off in a black Dodge Journey. A partial Michigan license plate number of Z28.

"I'm saying that because you don't just drive down the street and shoot people for no reason unless you're a complete idiot," said Steve Dolunt, assistant Detroit police chief. "There was one of the four people was the intended target. Unfortunately three were innocent victims I believe, it's early."

"My daughter walks across the field every day, she has to pass where the scene was," said one mother who lives nearby. "(About) 10 to 15 minutes of them walking away, I heard the gunshots.
she got to pass right where the scene was. less than ten or 15 minutes of them walking away. I heard the gunshots. as I'm hearing that, I'm running to get my babies.

"I never looked back, by that time my main focus was to get my kids."
