Drivers affected by I-75 closure

Many drivers affected by the 75 closure today commuting from Clarkston to Southfield. There are those alternate routes but even those are busy and causing delays.

We talked to drivers in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties affected by this weekend's road projects.

The big headache is the 12-mile stretch along 75. Various spots are closed sporadically throughout the weekend.

"Just detour after detour after detour and they are popping up overnight."

Bridges are to blame - a spokesperson with MDOT says they're demolishing two bridges between Friday and early Monday morning, the Wattles Road and Corporate Drive overpasses.

"My dad was just coming down this morning and he said it was a complete disaster trying to get off at Square Lake and was all backed up on Woodward - so it affected everything," driver Michelle Sweeney said.

It's diverting drivers everywhere.

Woodward is picking up most of the slack as the official noted detour for the closure.

One driver Nick Butris says Woodward is "horrible."

Clearly, there is only so much M-1 can handle.

"There are there some choice words used during your commutes. I don't think they are appropriate for TV," Butris said.

Sunday is Mother's Day so the potential for even more drivers clogging up those alternate routes.

"I'm going to be heading out to Holly to the cemetery for my mom and I'm sure it's going to be quite the drive not even sure how I'm going to get there yet," driver Unica Owens said.

There is a big picture here "Modernize 75" is the name for a 224-million-dollar project to repair roads and structures along the stretch.

"We live in Michigan we should be used to it, I know it's a headache but be patient it will be over eventually," she said.

Saturday night, MDOT says the bridge demos are going as planned - they expect to have I-75 up and running by 5 a.m. Monday.
