Drunk driver, Pokemon Go, combine in death of 14-year-old

Roseville police say they're investigating a very tragic accident that has left a 14-year-old boy dead.

Police say that boy, Ryan Mannes a Roseville High School 9th Grader was killed after being struck by a drunken motorcyclist Friday.

According to witnesses, Ryan was out and about with two school friends playing Pokémon Go in the area of 11 Mile Road and Demerick Street when Ryan allegedly wandered onto 11 Mile Road in an attempt to "capture a Pokémon".

As Ryan was returning to the sidewalk he was struck by a motorcycle being driven by a 24-year-old Roseville man. Ryan suffered catastrophic injuries in the collision and passed away at the scene.

After striking Ryan, the motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. As a result of the crash, both the driver and his 26-year-old female passenger (also from Roseville) suffered numerous non-life threatening injuries.

Both were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the motorcycle was treated and subsequently released into the custody of the Roseville Police, the female passenger is still in the hospital in good condition.

The investigation into this awful tragedy is continuing, however investigators have determined that the 24-year-old motorcyclist had been drinking prior to the crash taking place. Preliminary blood alcohol tests have shown the suspect had a blood alcohol content of .14, almost double that of the legal limit.

The suspect is currently being held without bond on a charge of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death. The suspected drunk driver will be formally arraigned sometime Monday.

The Roseville Schools have been notified and they are making crisis counselors available for Ryan's friends and classmates.
