Wednesday we celebrate our country's independence but the party kicked off tonight with fireworks shows all over town.

Perhaps none were grander than Tuesday night's celebration at Greenfield Village in Dearborn in a salute to America.

People arrived hours early to get a good seat before the Detroit Symphony Orchestra took the stage and the fireworks lit up the sky.

Mike Lennon making the perfect summer sandwich with a little mayo and a lot of Grey Poupon.

And for the Klug family some all-American favorites like KFC, some popsicles and ice cream as well.

"So we’re living large," she quipped.

And trying to stay cool Tuesday another scorcher with metro Detroit in the midst of a heat wave.

The annual salute to America at Greenfield Village a Fourth of July pastime for so many.

"It’s a family tradition for us," said Lennon. "We've been members of Greenfield Village and The Henry Ford for decades."

"It’s just wonderful having the music from the DSO and the fireworks to follow," said Bob Schuelke. "It’s great, it’s just a good time."

You can still get tickets for the final salute to America which will be on the Wednesday, the Fourth of July.
