Duo ran from and assaulted police after being suspected of shoplifting, police say

Kristine Marchese, 30, and Kyle Eberhart, 35, have been charged after allegedly stealing from a Kohl's store, fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle, hiding behind dumpsters, attempting to assault police, and being found in possession of drugs.

Two people have been charged after allegedly stealing from a Kohl's store in Troy, fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle, hiding behind dumpsters, attempting to assault police, having possession of drugs and other charges.

According to Troy police, officers arrived around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, to assist Kohl's loss prevention officers at the Kohl's store located on John R.

When police arrived, the suspects were traveling northbound John R. in a white Kia Optima that was reported stolen by Chesterfield Township police. Police attempted to "box" the suspects' vehicle in but the driver struck the rear of a police vehicle and fled the area.

Officials followed the suspects until they pulled into a parking lot at Concord Drive and Whitcomb Avenue in Madison Heights. Both suspects, Kristine Marchese, 30, and Kyle Eberhart, 35, jumped out and took off running.

Police say they found Marchese hiding behind a dumpster, carrying a plastic bag of marijuana, the stolen store merchandise, two needles and a crack pipe. She was charged with second-degree retail fraud, possession of marijuana, hinder and obstruction of a police officer, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, police attempted to block Eberhart's path with a police car as he jumped over the hood, damaging the windshield and quarter panel. Two officers eventually found him in a vestibule of a building and attempted to apprehend him.

Police say Eberhart resisted arrest and tried to hit one of the officers, who was able to block the punch. The suspect was placed in handcuffs, sustaining minor injuries. He was then treated by Alliance Mobile Health on the scene.

Officials say Eberhart was found with $229.99 worth of property stolen from the Kohl's store. He was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, malicious destruction of police property and hinder and obstruction of police property.
