Eastpointe woman sentenced to life for murder of newborn son

An Eastpointe woman who was convicted of leaving her newborn son out in the cold to die was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday.

Angela Alexie, 25, was charged earlier this year with murder and child abuse.

Police say Alexie had been staying at a house on Gascony Avenue with some friends around Christmas time in 2014 when she gave birth to a baby boy born in the garage.

Roseville police have told FOX 2 she left the baby in the garage, and only checked on him every so often. The baby eventually died on December 24.

He was found two weeks later in a recycling plant by a worker, frozen and wrapped in a black T-shirt.

"I don't know what to say. I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to happen," Alexie said Tuesday morning to the judge at her sentencing. "I don't know, I wish I could take it all back."

Alexie has three other children who were taken away by Child Protective Services.
