Farmington Hills Harrison teacher named teacher of the year

Local teachers are being rewarded for their hard work in the classroom.

In one example from Wednesday, Farmington Hills Harrison High School teacher Martha Mathison is one of the 'Teachers of the Year.'

She teaches Spanish and French. She receives a free two-year car lease from the suburban collection.

This was all a big surprise. Students, parents and staff nominated her, for going above and beyond.

Students also say they like the way Mrs. Mathison created her own grading system and even her own text book.
