FBI agent wounded in gunfire exhange outside Southfield Marriott; 1 suspect dead

A FBI task force agent was wounded in a shootout outside the Southfield Marriot.

After being wounded in his bullet-proof vest, the agent returned fire shooting and killing the suspect at about 9 p.m. Friday.

The agent was working as part of a child exploitation and trafficking unit. The agent is expected to recover.

Michigan State Police, Southfield police and multiple FBI agents are at the scene.

Police say this is an example of a large event like the North American International Auto Show attracting sex traffickers.

"One of the most important things is that the officer is okay," said Lt. Michael Shaw of Michigan State Police. "He was struck in the vest, the vest did its job. He was able to continue to fight."

Police are asking witnesses to come forward. Shaw said that anyone with information should contact any Michigan State Police office or the Detroit FBI.

FOX 2's Hannah Saunders is at the scene. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
