Firefighters find body after fire at abandoned home

DETROIT (WJBK) - Authorities are investigating after firefighters discovered a body after a fire at an abandoned home early Friday morning. 

Firefighters were called around 4 a.m. to the 14700 block of Liberal for a report of a fire. That's near Gratiot and Seven Mile Road on the city's east side. 

Once they were there, they discovered skeletal remains on the second floor of the home. We're told the body was hidden behind a knee wall that helped hold up the rafters. 

Authorities aren't sure right now if the remains belong to a man or a woman. We're told the body was badly decomposed, and could have been there for at least a year. 

The case has been given to the Medical Examiner to determine the identity and cause of death. 

The cause of the fire isn't known yet either.
