Sunday night deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's office were closing in on 38-year-old Shaun Benns.

Benns was considered a wanted suspect in several recent armed robberies in Troy and the surrounding communities. His latest crime coming at the expense of a Clark gas station in Troy which led to a police chase.

According to Sgt. Megan Lehman of the Troy police department, "he threatened the clerk, he threatened him with a screwdriver."

After robbing the gas station, a short time later, deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and officers of the Auburn Hills Police Department attempted to stop Benns’ vehicle on University Drive near Martin Luther King Jr Blvd., in Auburn Hills.

A short vehicle pursuit ensued, followed by a foot pursuit.

What happened next was like a twisted version of the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale.

"While he was running, he dropped money and officers were able to follow that trail and arrested him," said Lehman.

Beens has been charged with one count of armed robbery in relation to the incident in Troy and is being held without bond as police continue to investigate other crimes in the area he may be connected to.
