Police believe they know why a Grosse Pointe Farms man was attacked but they still don't know who did the attack.

Police say well-known interior designer Daniel Clancy was brutally attacked inside his home on Voltaire Sunday afternoon. The 69-year-old travels across the country for his work and friends and colleagues say he's extremely talented.

"He's just terrific very talented man who mentored me and made my career what it is today," Kevin Serba said. "When we worked together at the firm, everyone would ask for Dan's opinion. We would work together - it was a wonderful experience how he would share his talents with other people."

Police say Clancy was attacked and left for dead outside of his home Sunday. They were called to the home in the 200 block of Voltaire place around 4:30 p.m. where Clancy was found on the sidewalk.

He was bleeding and his wrists were duct-taped but he was conscious. Police say he was stabbed at least three times in the neck following an altercation both inside and outside his home.

Investigators believe it may have been some sort of a robbery attempt. Clancy had just returned home from shopping when whoever did this approached and brutally assaulted him.

Clancy's work has been featured in prestigious publications like W Magazine, he's appeared on HGTV, and was even named Detroit Monthly Magazines Designer of the Year.

Now, he's facing his toughest fight yet. Serba says he made it through surgery but has a long way to go.

"He's a fighter. He will make it through this. I believe he will," Serba said.

The Michigan state police are working closely with the Grosse Point Farms Police on the investigation. Both agencies are asking anyone who has any information to come forward.
